ratel wrote on Dec 19, '06 Herpetology is the study of reptiles and amphibians.
I was hoping for something a little more exciting...
| ratel wrote on Dec 19, '06 I could tell you the story about the time when I took the phrase "You're not a man until you've had the clap" literally?
|
I think I will just move on and pretend I didn't hear that. But thanks for the offer.
One of my 5 things should have been that I've owned a pet snake for the last 18 years -- the same one!

pez wrote on Dec 19, '06, edited on Dec 19, '06 A corn snake (of the rat snake family) named Lucifer. I got him when I was 18 in college. Shoot I guess that makes him almost 19. He looks like this (although this isn't him): He's about 4 feet long and has never hurt anyone (other than the occasional mouse, of course). I'll see if I can dig up some pictures of him.
He is beautiful! I used to keep garter snakes, Slick & Sly, but they got sick last year and died. :( I would like to keep some at work, but the guys balk. Laura is all for it.
Pez, ask Dan X how much he loves snakes... :-)
I held a boa once, but I thought I was going to crap my pants. The strangest thing about them is that when they are on your bare skin, you can feel their muscles moving to makes them crawl and it almost feels like a bunch of little feet. Whew, I could never own one.
We had a friend that had a Burmese Python named Scarlet. She was the best. She was 9' long and would actually slither up to have her chin rubbed. Their muscles are what makes them nifty!

Just felt the need to repeat it here. |
Dave, there is no need to be fearful. Remember, I cured that for you.
Dave, do you remember Lucifer from Phi Kap? He lived with me on the 2nd floor during what would have been your senior year. Occasionally I used to freak people out by putting him in my mouth and letting him slither out (he was much smaller back then). Oh, to be 18 again ;-)
I think I blocked that from my memory. Either that or the booze killed those brain cells. Either way, if I'd seen it once, I'm sure I avoided him like the plague. (which may also have resided on the 2nd floor)

I have a tremendous fear of snakes, thanks to the fact that my daughter Brooke was biten by a Copperhead when she was 5 years old.
