Four of Michael Schumacher's most significant F1 cars, all fully restored and operational.Having retired as the most successful Grand prix driver in history, Michael Schumacher competed in two hundred and fifty Grand Prixs beating every record ever set. Ninety-one victories, one hundred and fifty four podium finishes, sixty-eight pole positions, seventy-six fastest laps and seven World Championships.
The opportunity now exists to own without doubt the most important cars of Michael Schumacher’s career. A unique and irreplaceable collection - each car fully restored, documented and complete with everything required to run and drive. Included in the sale will be a test at a private circuit, overseen by Michael Schumacher’s Teammate at Benetton, Martin Brundle. The test will include seat fittings, and four sets of driver’s overalls in the different team liveries. For the new owner we have also commissioned a hand built model of each car complete with a ‘certificate’ of ownership signed by Michael Schumacher.
Jordan 191 / Ford HB chassis 01 – The car that started it all – first Grand PrixIn 1991 Eddie Jordan signed the virtually unheard of twenty-two year old – Michael Schumacher as a replacement for Bertrand Gachot. His Formula 1 debut was sensational, a complete natural, he took seventh place on the grid at a circuit he had never been to before. Sadly he retired due to a clutch problem - but the Grand Prix world had taken notice. The Jordan 191 in the collection, chassis number 191/01 is not only the very first Jordan built but also documented by Team owner Eddie Jordan to be the first Formula 1 car that Michael Schumacher ever drove, and is complete with correct type Ford HB V8 3.5 litre engine.
Benetton B191 / Ford HB chassis 05 – First world championship pointsBy the next race of the 1991 season, Schumacher was a Benetton driver. Surprisingly out-manoeuvred, Eddie Jordan was left to study the remnants of what he believed was a binding contract. Schumacher’s switch to Benetton caused an absolute furore in the F1 paddock but it was a move that began Schumacher’s journey to greatness and the re-writing of the history books. The collection’s Benetton B191, chassis number 05, is complete with correct works type 3.5-litre V8 Ford HB engine, was the start to the stratospheric journey of one of the world’s most successful sportsmen of all time. It was at Monza; driving this car that Michael Schumacher scored his first World Championship points.
Benetton B194 / Ford Zetec R chassis 05 – First world championshipThe second Benetton in the collection, the B194, chassis number 05, is Schumacher’s first World Championship winning car. Schumacher scoring more points in chassis 05 than any other chassis in 1994. He dominated the season winning eight Grand Prixs, four of them in B194/05; he had one second place finish and took three pole positions, three fastest laps and one lap record from five races. Fully documented by Benetton and complete with correct works type 3.5 litre Ford Zetec R V8 engine 194/05 is also highly significant as it is the car that won the last Formula 1 World Championship for Ford.
Ferrari F2002 – The car that settled it – total dominationSchumacher moved to Ferrari in 1996 and immediately began to build the team around him in an attempt to regain competitiveness. Schumacher and Ferrari’s rise back to the top step of the podium was spectacular and produced one of the most successful partnerships in sporting history. By 2002 Schumacher and Ferrari were totally dominant, the Ferrari F2002 taking fifteen wins from seventeen races. Michael Schumacher used the collection’s Ferrari F2002, chassis number 225, in the opening four races of the 2003 season. He took two pole positions and one fastest lap in this car, but it was in Italy that it achieved its finest hour. The final race that Schumacher raced ‘225’ was the San Marino Grand Prix in April 2003. Schumacher took pole position and scored a dominant victory but there was a bigger story to the F2002’s swan song. The race is regarded as the best and one of the most difficult of Michael Schumacher’s career. The death of his mother, just hours before the start of the race put Michael under incredible psychological pressure, but despite his personal grief, Schumacher managed victory in ‘225’ in Ferrari’s heartland on the final outing for that remarkable, prolific winner, the Ferrari F2002.
